Article I- Purpose
To enable faculty retirees and their surviving spouses to maintain association with the University; to promote common interests; and to be of service to the University and its educational goals.
Article II- Membership
Membership is open to retired full-time faculty members, faculty members formally granted phased retirement status, and professional staff (exempt employees) and their spouses. Questions pertaining to eligibility shall be settled by a majority vote of the Executive Committee. (Description of professional staff is based on employment categories of U.K. Dept. of Human Resources).
Article III- Governance
Officers: Officers of the Association shall be President, Vice President (President Elect), Recording Secretary, Executive Secretary, and Treasurer. They shall perform duties as normally befall such offices. A slate of officers shall be presented to the general membership by the Executive Committee at the regular meeting in April of each year. Nominations may be made from the floor. All officers shall assume office immediately upon election. Vacancies shall be filled by the Executive Committee.
Executive Committee: The Executive Committee shall consist of the five officers, the past President, and chairpersons of the standing committees (Membership, Program, Benefits, Communications/Website, Service, Newsletter and Fellowships Committees).
Article IV- Meetings
Regular meetings of the membership shall be held four times each year. Special meetings may be called by the Executive Committee.
Article V- Dues
Annual dues shall be determined by the Executive Committee, payable August 1 and due no later than November 1. Delinquent members shall be denied voting privileges.
Article VI- Quorum
A quorum for general Membership Meetings shall consist of ten members. Three members shall constitute a quorum for the Executive Committee.
Article VII- Amendments
These By Laws may be amended at any regular or special meeting by two-thirds of those present provided notice of intent to amend By Laws is published in the newsletter prior to the general Membership Meeting.
Article VIII- Parliamentary Authority
In all matters not covered by these By Laws, this organization shall be governed by the latest edition of Roberts Rules of Order.
